Synopsis:

Return with us to Philadelphia in that long hot summer of 1776. The distinguished members of the Continental Congress are being treated to the unceasing protestations of John Adams of Massachusetts as he tries to convince his colleagues to vote for independence. Along with Mr. Adams, meet Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania, Richard Henry Lee of Virginia, Edward Rutledge of South Carolina, and of course, another famous young Virginian, Thomas Jefferson. Moments of comedy abound, and dramatic events unfold, as these men, and the other members of the Continental Congress, take us back to relive the days leading up to the writing and signing of our Declaration of Independence. According to Peter Stone, who wrote the book for this Tony Award winning musical, the beauty of the show comes in "discovering that our founding fathers were men of flesh and blood and not cardboard, and that our history is fascinating." All of the emotional power of a new nation being born is felt in this musical celebration of the birth of America!
