To Forgive, Divine

"To Forgive, Divine"

by Jack Neary

Synopsis:

The parish tongues are wagging as Father Jerry Dolan, the handsome Catholic priest, has been seeing quite a bit of pretty (and married) parishioner Katie Cachencko. Fueling the rumor mill are Father Dolan’s gossipy housekeeper, Milly, and her romantically minded niece, Margaret. Add to the mix Katie’s unhappy marriage to husband Ralph, a macho and insensitive ex football star, and we have some of everything you want in a play- humor, pathos, tension, and a good story with a satisfying conclusion.

Amid the hilarity, the characters explore their own identities , bring to light the question of priestly celibacy, and gain valuable self-knowledge and understanding. This is a comedy that will make you laugh and have you thinking at the same time.

"It’s like ‘The Big Chill’ in the church, and by the end of the play, the characters have faced the ghosts of their childhood, revealing their vulnerability in the process. It’s about a journey toward self-discovery. The characters’ hopes and fears are universal."
