Announcing Auditions For...
"Godspell"
Auditions - September 21, 22, 23 of 2008 at 7 pm
at the Starlighters Theatre in Anamosa
Denise Bird (Mechanicsville),
Director
THE STORY:
Based on the Gospel of Matthew, "Godspell" is a wonderfully spiritual experience, and a demonstration of love and joy. It is a musical celebration of humankind. What better way to celebrate the Christmas season than with an innovative and unique expression of the life of Jesus. Love, kindness, and tolerance are interwoven throughout this heart-warming tale of hope for current and future generations. The parables of Matthew's Gospel come to life, aided by the captivating music of Stephen Schwartz, including the well-known hit song, "Day By Day." Billboard Magazine said that "'Godspell' turns the theatre into a joyous palace." You will find out how true that quote is when you join us for this magical experience!
INFORMATION ABOUT AUDITIONS:
Please note that this show is going to have all ages. This is not going to be a 20 something show. I want 10+ to 100 to consider this show. Don't be afraid to audition. There are very few pre-conceived notions.
In the script, other than the characters of Jesus and John the Baptist/Judas, the characters are called by the first name of the actors. Each actor will bring his/her own personality traits to the character. Having said that, this is how each of the characters is described.
Jesus: Must be the most charismatic individual in the cast. High energy, charming, funny, gentle but with STRENGTH.
John the Baptist/Judas: He has attributes of both Biblican figures: He is both Jesus' lieutenant and most ardent disciple and the doubter who begins to question and rebel. Like Jesus, he is charismatic, but in more of an overt revolutionary was. He is the most "serious" and intellectual of the group, but still must posses a good sense of physical comedy.
Jeffrey: Very high energy. Impish and playful. He may end up playing several musical instruments.
Not sure which ones yet. Hopefully the recorder at the least.
Lamar: Not the brightest in the bunch. Slow on the uptake. But sweet and innocent. Because he sings "All Good Gifts" must be a very good singer.
Herb: The class clown. Voices and physical humor are his strong points. Sings the least. More of a comedian then a singer.
Robin: Bit of a tomboy but open and sweet.
Joanne: The show-off. A bit eager to the point of being forward.
Peggy: Shy, somtimes a little slow to get things. Has an "Earth Mother" style.
Sonia: Sassy and slightlty cynical. The "sexy" one ala Mae West or Madonna.
Gilmer: Female class clown. Female that sings the least.
