Youth Programs

Young People's Theatre

From its beginning in 1974 the Starlighters II Young People’s Theatre (YPT) program has been one of our main educational programs.  Unlike many ‘children’s theatres’ in which adults perform for children, YPT was formed to give young people experience across the full spectrum of theatre. Here, during two, multi-week sessions, "Theatre I" and "Theatre II," held each spring, kids in grades 4-8 learn the art and science of acting.

Young people who complete both sessions are invited to participate in a special performance night in November, which is preceded by auditions in late July and early August, and rehearsals in September, October, and November.

Starlighters II YPT continues to maintain its reputation as one of the most intensive acting education programs for youth in the state.
